Nadir patch: cover the tripod in a 360 photo

Open a 360 photo, look straight down and cover the tripod: fill it in with the floor around it, put a colour disc over it or put your own logo there. Then download the photo at full resolution, ready for your virtual tour.

Your photo never leaves your device: it is opened and processed in this page, and nothing is uploaded.

Why the tripod shows in a 360 photo

A 360 camera records every direction, straight down included: the point photographers call the nadir. That is exactly where whatever holds the camera stands, so the tripod, its shadow and sometimes your feet cover the floor at the bottom of every photo. In a virtual tour, the first time a buyer looks down, that is what they see.

Three ways to cover it, and when each looks best

  • Fill with the floor: the tool rebuilds the floor under the tripod from the floor around it, the same way Vistura's editor does. Best on plain or fine-grained floors: tiles with thin joints, carpet, concrete, grass, decking.
  • Colour disc: a plain disc, by default in the colour of the floor. Best when the floor has a strong pattern that a fill would smear (chevron parquet, large tiles, a rug), or when you want a clean, deliberate look.
  • Your logo: a disc with your agency's or studio's logo in the middle, the classic nadir logo. Best when you want your name in every photo. Use a PNG with a transparent background, keep the disc small (14 to 20 degrees) and pick a colour close to the floor so it does not shout.

How to shoot so the tripod is small

  • Use a thin, light stand (a light stand or a monopod with small feet) rather than a photo tripod with a big head: there is less to cover.
  • Put the camera right above the centre column, on a thin extension pole if you have one, so the stand stays inside the small circle straight down.
  • Close the legs in as far as is still stable: wide legs reach further from the centre and need a bigger cover.
  • Turn on your camera's own tripod or stick removal if it has one: it does the same job before the photo reaches you.
  • Step out of the room before the shot, and avoid a rug under the stand: your feet and the edge of a rug are harder to cover than a plain floor.

What the tool does with your photo

It opens the photo on your device, shows you the floor straight below the camera and paints the cover you choose into the bottom of the photo. Everything outside the cover keeps the photo's full resolution and is saved in a new JPEG (quality 92) with the 360 metadata (GPano XMP) that 360 viewers and tour software look for. Your original file is not changed.

Questions

Is my photo uploaded?

No. The photo and your logo are opened and processed in this page, on your device. They are not sent to Vistura or anywhere else, and nothing is kept after you close the page.

Which files work?

JPEG, PNG and WebP photos in the 2:1 equirectangular format that 360 cameras and apps export, up to 16384 x 8192. For the logo: PNG, JPEG, WebP or SVG. The download is always a JPEG.

What size should I choose?

Look at the view from above and move the slider until the dashed circle just covers the feet of the tripod and its shadow. Most photo tripods need 16 to 24 degrees; a thin stand with its legs closed in, 10 to 14.

Will my logo look stretched?

No. The disc is drawn as it is seen looking straight down, so in a 360 viewer it is round and your logo reads the right way round when you look down facing the front of the photo.

Why does the fill look smudged?

The fill rebuilds the floor from what is around the tripod. On a strong pattern, or when the shadow reaches outside the circle, it can look smudged: make the circle a little bigger, or use a colour disc.

Is it really free?

Yes: no account, no email, no watermark and no limit on how many photos you cover. The tool never adds Vistura's logo: the only logo on the floor is one you choose.

Turn this photo into a virtual tour

Add a 360 photo of each room to Vistura, connect the rooms and share one link with buyers. In Vistura you choose the tripod cover once and apply it to every photo of the tour, and you can change it later without touching the photos. The free plan has 3 active tours and covers the tripod with the Vistura disc; the floor fill, a colour disc or your own logo come with Pro.
